A new article recently published in the journal PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases has a rather intriguing title: An In-Depth Analysis of a Piece of Shit: Distribution of Schistosoma mansoni and Hookworm Eggs in Human Stool.
An analysis of a piece of shit??? You got to be kidding me!
No, not at all. This is a serious scientific study. The scientists collected human feces and performed experiments to study the 'spatial distribution of Schistosoma mansoni and hookworm eggs' in human stool. Schistosoma mansoni is a trematode parasite that causes the diseases Schistosomiasis in infected humans.
Collecting human poop? This must be the most 'fun' field work ever. Brings back some of my memories of luring beetles and flies with human poop trap...
After about just 20 days of publication, this article has already attracted more than 30,000 views. Science is actually full of those small amusements.
